FREE WRITE: "Steelo" By Kassidy Grant

“Steelo”
By Kassidy Grant

The microphone dropped.
Uttering the screeching sound of an era that just ended.
A pro era. For her clutched the the trigger as tight as he
gripped the microphone.
“The end.” He said last.
A bullet single handedly went through one end
and out of the other.
Out splattered a legend.
A poet who’s words once spilled from his brain
and rushed through his fingers.

Leaking out of the lip of the pen and kissing the paper.
Soon to be read to those willing to listen.
The end to a man who in nineteen years
changed the way we look at poetry.
Long live the one who said what no one else would.
“A man’s world, but a white mans planet.”
He shouted to the crowd, they held up their fists in glory.
This is the story of poetry today.
His heart beats through the beats of music parading through our heads.
Long. Live. Steelo.
