POETRY: "The Kids" by Glacys Agustin

“The Kids”
By Glacys Agustin

This one’s for the kids who have it made-
The rich kids, the popular kids.
The one whose father is a CEO,
The one whose mother is a movie star.
The A-Listers and hotshots
Who were born in the spotlight.

This one’s for the kids who’ve lost their way-
The outcasts, the misfits.
To the ones who’ve fallen far from grace;
to the ones who think they’re far too flawed
for this world, let alone heaven.

This one’s for the kids who smile
to hide what’s underneath.
The ones who suffer in silence
just to make sure you don’t have to.
The ones who hold others in their arms
when no one would do the same for them.

This one’s for the kids who stay on top-
the talented, intelligent, loved.
The ones who work for what they want
and the naturally talented prodigies.

This one’s for the kids with broken hearts
who hold on everyday,
telling themselves that each mistake
is another lesson to learn;
the ones that find strength
in every shattered dream

This one’s for the kids who live and breathe
and do nothing in particular.
To the kids defined by the word “normal”.
because they’re just like everyone else.

It’s time to give credit where credit is due
and give a voice to words unspoken.
This one’s for the kids who live their lives
being unique, like everyone else.
