"My New Beginning"
By Joshua Merchant
Most fear the concept of death, but not me.
Most shudder at the thought of eternal slumber,
yet, these are the thoughts that ease my mind.
The constant rhythmic beat of your pulse,
ticking like the watch of life, until, finally,
The average man hides from this inevitability.
I welcome it with the most open of arms.
I don't crave an unnatural death,
like one from the category of suicide,
for that would ruin the beauty of it all.
No. I ache for the time and place
that God or Allah or Buddha
has already arranged for me.
That time and place where I can close my eyes,
allow my body to grow pale,
let the warmth of my skin escape me,
and forever seclude my mind,
from the evils of this cruel world.
Most attribute to death fear and evil.
Most hide in the shadows from death,
or run away from the light at the end of the tunnel,
as if they had the ability to escape this blessing,
bestowed upon all living things, the ability to die.
The chance to start over.
So while some think of death as the end,
I long for my new beginning.

I really liked your poem, quite an interesting take on a controversial topic, such as death.
