POETRY: "Nightingale" By Christina Adepoju

"Nightingale"
By Christina Adepoju

The nightingale gives me peace
its songs shiver down my spine
as I listen to its melodious voice;
hearing the pitch-perfect harmonies,
is as calming as the summer sea

Watching the nightingale, resting on the tree
it calls out for its mate, singing all throughout the night
its voice echoes, fills the eeriness of the pitch-black sky

My own nightingale, won't you sing to me?
Your voice is my sanity,
soft-spoken and light, I find solace in your songs,
it gives me comfort, a sense of security
to know that you will always be with me

Safe and sound in your presence
you watch over me with gentle, caring eyes
as the evanescing moon
disappears in the moonlight.

My nightingale sings to me
With every sweet, harmonious melody.
